Mined and carved in Madagascar , this wonderful egg is Petrified Poducarpus Wood with a marvelous array of maroon, red, black and brown colors; an exceptional natural white 'cap,' and exquisite detail in the preserved wood grain. This display-quality carved egg holds the imprint of an estimated 150-plus million years of geological history. It measures 103mm (approx. 4 inches) tall by 70mm (approx. 2-3/4 inches) wide, and weighs more than one and one-half pounds (23 ounces) . The acrylic stand is included. Petrified Wood is a fossil created from tree trunks buried deep under layers of sediment. Over the millennia, the organic wood matter is compressed and transformed by underground streams of water rich in silicates into various forms of Quartz, including Chalcedony, Agate and Jasper. The result is a rock in which details from the original tree trunk are preserved. Petrified Wood is reputed to help with the recall of past lives, and is often called a stone of transformation .
