DESCRIPTION: 's one of a number of extremely rare collectible vintage zinc greetings card printing plates that I am presently or will be auctioning that date between 1910 and the mid 1930's ( see depiction title below ). This original artist design was done by Mrs. Louise Roberts who started creating greeting card designs ( her art talents were also used by a number of clothing stores in advertising for depicting women's fashions ) in 1910 along with her husband ( all the designs / drawings were created by Mrs. Roberts with Mr. Roberts assisting in the printing efforts ) at Rose Valley which was an experimental Arts and Crafts community located along Ridley Creek near Media, Pennsylvania. Rose Valley was a picturesque suburban artists' colony founded on the teachings of John Ruskin and William Morris. The Robert's moved to the Utopian community of Arden, Delaware around 1917 which was founded by Frank Stevens and Will Price and they continued the greetings card business and sold to stores such as Scribner's Books, Mark Ross Stationary and Georg Jensen along with consignments to other various retailers. The Roberts made one more move to New Hope, Pennsylvania just before concluding the greetings card business in the mid 1930's.
