The 12th Zionist Congress. Karlovy Vary (Czechoslovakia), September 1-14, 1921. Chairman - N. Sokolov. The First Zionist Congress after the break caused by the First World War. New conditions for the Zionists, formed as a result of the defeat of Germany and its allies, the formation in Europe of a number of young national states, the transition of Eretz Israel to British control, the publication of the Balfour Declaration and the victory of the Bolshevik revolution in Russia, as well as new movements in these conditions topics discussed at the congress. H. Weizmann reported on the political activities of the leadership of the Zionist organization during the war years and called on the Jews of the whole world to take part in the creation of a national hearth in Eretz-Israel. The congress participants welcomed the Balfour Declaration and called on the League of Nations to approve the British mandate for Palestine. The decision of the Zionist conference held in London in 1920 about the establishment of Keren Hayesod was approved. At the Congress, the struggle that began at the London Conference between supporters of the social and economic concepts of H. Weizmann and L. Brandeis (see Zionism, Historical Review, from the Balfour Declaration to the Biltmore Program) continued; in particular, sharp disputes caused the proposal of A. Ruppin read more
