Illustrated throughout with b&w photographs.GOOD condition: The covers have wear to the spine ends and corner tips, and the gilt lettering on the front cover has mostly rubbed off; internally the pages have light signs of wear from use and age, including a couple scrapes and creases, but remain bright, clean, clear and unmarked. A solid, nice, used copy.The 13th Armored, nicknamed The Black Cats, was the first U.S. Army Division to be organized, activated, and trained entirely in California. In recognition, California's Governor Earl Warren (later Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court) proclaimed the 13th as "California's Own" and honored the Division with a special ceremony on July 4, 1943 which included a review of armored combat equipment, tank christening, and unveiling of a new Black Cat insignia drawn by Walt Disney.
