Have a letter written by Charles E Brown of the 2nd Ohio Infantry from Camp Chase, Ohio on September 15, 1862. It seems Brown and some other 2nd Ohio boys were captured and they were paroled and are waiting for orders to go back to the field, and he is getting tired of waiting..."I would be willing to to stay here if I thought I was doing any good.........I might as well be home." "There is a company of Cavalry to be raided here in Columbus and I will either go with them or come home soon for I am sick and tired of this place." He tells his father that lots of soldiers leave there while being paroled and go home "and yhere has been nothing said about it." "Therer was about 1400 more Paroled Prisoners came here to report last week(,) they was taken in the last fight at Bull Run(and) they are nearly all Eastern men."......"I see by the Cincinatti papers that secesh have retreated and the city is safe(Morgan?) and I hope you wont be bothered with them anymore.". He inquires about a Lt and wonders if he has got back to his company and asks his father to let him know about how any of the boys from their end(of town) have enlisted. Asks him to tell him in next letter about several people he mentions. Brown adds a post script to his letter to his father; "the company of Cavalry I spoke about in this letter is being raised to go and fight read more
