1515 Post Incunabula woodcut / Murder of a scientist This is a rare and early printed sheet with estimated date 1510-1525, A post incunabula from the very beginning of the printed book. The splendid page belongs to a work issued in German translation 6 March 1505. Imagine the invention of book printing was invented only some 50 years before by Johann Gutenberg in 1450. Typical for these early (post)incunabula pieces is that the initials w not printed, t is a space left open to paint them with hand. This is a post incunabula, Dürer time woodcut, in early impression and from top quality. Source The Roman History from Titius Livius is a very popular and famous work. This one is from a publication with the initials printed from a sepeate woodblock. Period 1510-1525. Pages in early edition as this very rare and valuable. Quality These impressions intended to look as close as possible to an original manuscript, the woodblocks reproducing the miniatures. The woodcut also has unbroken lines around the image border, this is only found in very early impressions like this one. The first thing that shows in later impressions are the broken lines from cracking of little pieces from the vulnerable woodblock. Technical: The woodcut measures 12,50 by 15 cm.
