1558 BOUSSUET - COCHLEA SEA SHELLS 2 original WOODCUTS Handcolored Description Boussuet, F. Superb hand colored woodcut leaf. Woodcuts, recto / verso of one leaf. Published in 1558 (452 years old!!!) Original Leaf size: 19.5 x 13.8 cms [ 7.6 x 5.3 inches ] From: De natura aquatilium carmen, in universam G. Rondeletii, quam de piscibus marinis scripsit historiam: cum vivis eorum imagnibus (!), opusculum nunc primum in luce(m) emissum. Franciscus Boussuet lived from 1520 to 1572 and followed his contemporary Rondelet (1507-1566) who had seen his fish book published by the same publisher three years earlier. With each illustration, Boussuet added notes on the figured species shape, habitat, or other defining characters and culinary notes in verse. ITEM CONDITION: Please view images carefully.
