Exquisitely Illuminated leaf from a noted collectarium on vellum in Latin, Paris, France, ca. 1400-1425. 4-line red music staves recto and verso, bar borders with burnished gold ivy leaves. 2 & 3 line painted red and blue capitals highlighted in white on burnished gold backgrounds. Extremely refined angular gothic script in black ink. The red lined staves with square black neumes. Guaranteed original of the period. Size: 95 x 66 mm MAGNIFICENT large Illuminated initial N in red, blue, green & white tracery against a Large BURNISHED GOLD ground begins the first line of text on this page. Bar borders of burnished gold and red, blue & white colors terminate in burnished gold ivy leaves in the top margin. At the bottom of the leaf a border similar to that at the top border has been expertly recreated in an aread w the original page has been excised. The subsitute designs both recto and verso are EXTREMELY Well Done and were presumable executed early in the manuscripts history.
