This is a very nice complete 16 volume illustrated hardcover edition of the classic children's collection, "The Childrens Hour", edited by Marjorie Barrows, and published by Grolier Inc. in 1966. The books include works for and appropriate for children by some well known authors. Early stories by Jacob and William Grimm, Charles Dickens, Lewis Carroll, William Shakespeare, Edgar Allen Poe, Samuel Clemmons, Louisa May Alcott, Zane Grey to more recent works by Dr. Suess, Carl Sandburg, and Robert A. Heinlein are just a small sampling of the authors represented in this fine collection. Each volume has different colorfully illustrated endpapers in keeping with the theme of the particular volume as well as a tremendous number of both black and white and color illustrations. Some of the illustrations are full page and very detailed and richly colored. Each volume contains an index and volume 16 includes a guide to the collection that begins with some editorial style pieces directed toward the parents and on the subject of reading for children in general. A bibliography divided into Primary, Intermmediate, and Advanced catagories is followed by a section of short biographical pieces about the authors entitled "Who's Who In The Childrens Hour".
