FRONT REAR An original folio size 17th Century leaf from the remains of an Antiphonal published in France in 1624 with part of a Gregorian chant printed on both sides in two colours on hand made paper. The text is in Latin with black square-note music on a red four-line stave with on one side two woodcut historiated initials in red and black. Antiphonals contain chants for the canonical hours of the Divine Office. They were used by priests, monks and nuns in churches and religious enclaves. The large size allowed them to be seen by multiple members of a choral section. This leaf was produced in Toul (Tulli Leucorum), France, in 1624, by Simon Belgrand. This is an original, not a reproduction and its condition is shown in the photographs. Size is 19¼ by 13 inches PLEASE NOTE We are based in the U.K. G oods are well packaged and sent as soon as payment is accepted. Visit memories books prints collectables for all our collectable items.
