Allain Mallet's 'Description de l'univers' was an extensive publication which contained a wealth of information. It is not surprising, tfore, that on occasion he printed more than one map on a page in the format of a single engraving. This copperplate map(s) was published in Paris in 1683. The top map shows the whole of the Mediterranean region while the middle and lower maps display the eastern and western portions in greater detail. The map(s) is in good condition, has later hand coloring and is printed without folds. T is French text on verso. The map(s) measures 4.0 X 5.75 inches (10 X 15 cm) and is engraved on a page measuring 5.25 X 8.25 inches (13.5 X 21 cm).
