1688 Original Map View City Mystra Sparti Morea Greece Title: Morea , Mistra ou Sparte Date: 16 88 Color: Black & White Medium: Copperplate Engraving on high handmade laid paper Dimension: image ( 12.8 x 16.1 cm or 5 x 6 5/ 16 inch); paper ( 20 .5 x 32.2 cm or 8 1/8 x 1211/16 inch) Credits: Olfert Dapper ( author ), W Waesbergen, Boom, Sommeren en Goethals Publisher, page number 33-34 from Illustrations de Naukeurige Beschryving van Morea, eertijts Peloponnesus, en de Eilanden ( Amsterdam, 16 88 ) Condition: Overall the map is in excellent condition [i.e., clear and clean image, strong and bright paper, original full margins, and slight but even age toning]. T are a few tiny nicks along the edge of margin and some very minor inside creases around text area as shown by the detailed photos. P hotos [front and back] in high resolution are presented for your convenience of identification and judging its excellent quality independently. Description: This very interesting map and view of Mystra [a prominent Byzantine city of Morea near ancient city-state of Sparti] was from the book referenced and published in 1688 in Amsterdam. The Dutch text [in front and verso] was authored by Olfert Dapper (1635-1689). The view is quite up to date [as the text explained] that the city [under Ottoman rule] at the time was actually under Venetians
