Complete.Title in red and black. Fine woodcut initials and ornaments throughout.Fine original vellum binding.Jean Cabassut (Cabassutius) (1604 – 1685) was a French Oratorian theologian. This, his masterpiece, was written at the request of Cardinal Grimaldi, Archbishop of Aix, whom he accompanied to Rome. First published in a much smaller form, Cardinal Grimaldi induced the writer to enlarge this work and publish it under the title, "Notitia ecclesiastica historiarum, conciliorum et canonum invicem collatorum", etc. Much enlarged and modified this edition was THE AUTHORITY ON THE HISTORY OF THE COUNCILS.
