170th Tactical Fighter Squadron

USAF Patch

3 1/2" Round

Merrowed Edge

Used (never sewn on a uniform

or mounted on a board )

Very Good Condition

This unit was activated on 10 November 1958

at Capital Airport, Springfield, Illinois attached to

the 183rd Tactical Fighter Group and on 15 October 1962

when the Illinois Air National Guard reached Group status

It was inactivated on 15 March 1992 when the unit was

redesignated as a Fighter Squadron -- the 170th TFS was the

first Air National Guard squadron to fly the F-4 Phantom II aircraft;

it flew F-4Cs between January 1972 and December 1980 and F-4Ds

until the spring of 1989 -- prior to that it flew F-84F aircraft

This patch was made in 1982

A very nice one
