This is a wonderful, original document, dated 1728, Gowanus, in the township of, Brooklyn, New York, where Johannes Bennet & Agnietje Bennett , have sold a house, barn and orchard in Gowanus to Adriaen Bennett .....signed at bottom by Johannes Bennet,Agnietje Bennett,Cornelius Van Duyn and Jan Van Nuy.Document is 13x16, folds, minor paper faults as shown in scans, else in overall good condition.Johannes Bennet was born at Gowanus, Brooklyn, bap. 25 August 1703 at New Amsterdam Reformed Dutch Church. He married Annetje COUWENHOVEN (baptized ca 1715) Johannes relocated to Monmouth Co NJ sometime after 1726, was a merchant and trader at Monmouth, and involved in legal affairs.Children, all born in Monmouth.Cornelius Van Duyn, son of Gerret Cornellissen Van Duyn , was born in Brooklyn, New York, July 16, 1664. He had the Jansen and Du Ceen farms in New Utrecht and lapped there. In 1687 he took the oath of allegiance as a native. He bought, April 30. 1694, the tarm of Will1am Huyekens, his father-in-law, for 262 pounds. The farm was in Gowanus. He bought another farm there December 30, 1699, of Cornelius Vanderbeeck. He probably resided on the Huyeken farm, afterwards owned by Richard Berry. With seventeen: others, in 1700, he bought the Harlington tract in Somerset county, New Jersey, amounting to 9,000 acres.
