FREE SHIPPING ANYWHERE IN THE CONTINENTAL US! This is a gorgeous 18th century carved wood panel from a church or cathedral. Comes with provenance, which I believe reads, "Painted Shrine Back Panel Cir. 1730-50 Fine Example of its Kind." The notation was obviously written later. This gothic panel depicts the Virgin Mary with Baby Jesus and protected by winged griffins or stylized eagles on either side. The detail is exquisite. The panel measures 24" tall x 31" wide and 2 1/8" deep. It was painted a satin black (Jacobean finish) on the front. Back remains unpainted. The panel does show some wear around the edges where the wood has worn and there are a couple of small repairs where wood was re-attached.
