Excellent Gift Idea or Investment Book; I Can't Locate another from this year Anywhere for Sale!!! Attributes: A Gorgeous, Blue marble cover design with leather binding and vellum corners, ornate gold binding, and an Epic Adventure Classic Complete in Four Parts, with pretty woodcut headingins and written in Old English "f" instead "s" on handmade paper!!! Some Contents Included: Gulliver's Travels ( 1726, amended 1735), is a novel by Irish writer and clergyman Jonathan Swift that is both a satire on human nature and a parody of the "travellers' tales" literary sub-genre. It is Swift's best known full-length work, and a classic of English literature . The book presents itself as a simple traveller's narrative with the disingenuous title Travels into Several Remote Nations of the World , its authorship assigned only to " Lemuel Gulliver , first a surgeon, then a captain of several ships". The text is presented as a first-person narrative by the supposed author, and the name "Gulliver" appears nowhere in the book other than the title page. Different editions contain different versions of the prefatory material which are basically the same as forewords in modern books. Background: Jonathan Swift (30 November 1667 – 19 October 1745) was an Irish satirist , essayist , political pamphleteer (first for the Whigs , then for the Tories ), poet and cleric who became Dean of St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin . He is remembered for works such as Gulliver's Travels , A Modest Proposal , A Journal to Stella , Drapier's Letters , The Battle of the Books , An Argument Against Abolishing Christianity , and A Tale of a Tub . Swift is probably the foremost prose satirist in the English language , and is less well known for his poetry . Swift originally published all of his works under pseudonyms —such as Lemuel Gulliver , Isaac Bickerstaff , M.B. Drapier —or anonymously. He is also known for being a master of two styles of satire: the Horatian and Juvenalian styles. Condition: Condition is Good+/Very Good. Some wear to edges, stress lines to surface hinges/little to spine, 1174 signature, pages are pretty good, slight age tone/light blemishing, hinges/text block are very good, not sure if suppose to have two more title pages, has first/second parts/title pages. Overall, for 245 years old its in Good+/Very Good Condition!!!
