The New England Almanack, or Lady's and Gentleman's Diary, For The Year of our Lord Christ 1779. West, Benjamin. Providence, Rhode-Island: Printed and Sold by John Carter, [1778]. ---o0o---Benjamin West (March 1730 – August 26, 1813) was an American astronomer, mathematician, professor and author of almanacs . West published a series of almanacs between 1763 and 1793 for New England. His first, titled An Almanack, for the year of our Lord Christ, 1763 was printed on the first printing press in Providence. This almanac was enlarged in 1764 and published annually until 1781. He published an almanac for Halifax, Nova Scotia from 1766-1812, except for a few years during the American Revolution. Contents include "Moral Observations"; 5 pages of Roads and distances information; Receipts for diseases, etc. American Revolution era Almanack. Evans 16168; Drake 12851. Measures 6.5" x 4". Paginates 22 of 24, lacks last leaf. Contents are loose, some edgewear, light staining and foxing, but otherwise in very good condition. Truly a rare find.
