You are bidding on a very beautiful engraved and rare 100% original and authentic 227 year old hand colored antique map of the above region from the extremely rare and much sought after 1780 edition of "Atlas de Toutes les Parties Connues du Globe Terrestre" by the famous 18th century cartographer Rigobert Bonne. This is an investment grade map and will continue to rise in value over time due to the extreme scarcity of the atlas and the map. The map is 100% authentic and is not a reproduction. The price of this particular edition of this atlas is currently valued between $3,000 to $5,000. Cartographer/Publisher: Rigobert Bonne (1727-1795 ) was one of the most important cartographers of the late 18th century. In 1773 he succeeded Jacques Bellin as Royal Cartographer to France in the office of the Hydrographer at the Depôt de la Marine . Working in his official capacity Bonne compiled some of the most detailed and accurate maps of the period. Bonne's work represents an important step in the evolution of the cartographic ideology away from the decorative work of the 17th and early 18th century towards a more detail oriented and practical aesthetic. With regard to the rendering of terrain Bonne maps bear many stylistic similarities to those of his predecessor, Bellin. However, Bonne maps generally abandon such common 18th century decorative features such as hand coloring, elaborate decorative cartouches, and compass roses. While mostly focusing on costal regions, the work of Bonne is highly regarded for its detail, historical importance, and overall aesthetic appeal. General Description: 1. Attractive map of region, with details of cities, rivers, land masses, and waterways . Notice the incredibly beautiful and detailed hand coloring. The map depicts the region in considerable detail and includes both political and topographical information. The map is far more beautiful than my pictures show and is in excellent condition. 2. The map is in excellent condition considering the age of the map. The overall size of the map sheet is large at approximately 14 inches by 10 inches. The map will look beautiful when matted and framed for display. 3. The map is a 100% original and genuine antique map. I will send you a copy of the title page for your records. 4. Original maps from this atlas sell for hundreds of dollars. Map Collecting: Maps are great gifts and perfect decorative additions to any home or office.
