Antique c1780 Georgian Writing Slope Box in Mostly solid Mahogany with attractive 'flame' curl mahogany lid, A heavy box ,More rare to find and one of the earliest of its type with dovetailed construction and black ebony banding around the base,it has original inlaid bone escutcheon, all original brass fittings (side carry handles,hinges ,lock etc...) ,side opening full depth wedge shaped drawer fitted with pen tray,stamp slope ,inkwell compartments etc...,The writing surface has original green baize weave type material ,there is paperwork compartment inside lid (photo 11) where lecturn batten fits.Further fiitings for lecturn inside and on the outer lid (photo10), Dimensions 18" wide x 10.5" deep x 6" tall, The box is ready for use and in fairly good condition commensurate with age but not perfect,the top has had slight movement ,overall strong, sturdy and made to last.I can provide a key though the lock is quite worn .Please see Photos.
