The print is a copperplate engraving printed on laid paper in 1792. The sheet measures 10 X 7 1/2 inches and is in good condition aside from foxing spots in the margins. The image is titled "Isis et Serapis, en Cornaline." It is inscribed " G. F. Schrazenstaller sc." [This is the name of the engraver.] The print comes from "Principales Figures de la Mythologie, executées en taille douce d'après les pierres gravées antiques qui appartenoient autre-fois au Baron de Stosch, et qui sont aujourdhui dans le cabinet du Roi de Prusse," published in Nuremberg by Jean Fr. Frauenholz in 1792. Serapis is a Graeco-Egyptian god. Serapis was devised during the 3rd century BC on the orders of Ptolemy I of Egypt as a means to unify the Greeks and Egyptians in his realm. There is nothing printed on the reverse side. The print is shown on a black background in order to show the entire sheet. This is an antique print guaranteed to be over 200 years old.
