Its a small book - 3 1/2 " x 5 1/2 ", in badly cracked leather bound boards. Full text with no missing pages, 226 pages, no engravings . End page torn.Inscribed on cover page " Timothy Woodwards Property, January 12, 1804 " and again on title page, " Don't Dirt it & Return It " In 1776 James Cook undertook his third and final voyage, his aim being to explore the West coast of North America and to locate a passage between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. In his search for the elusive north-west passage, he discovered Christmas Island and the Sandwich (Hawaiian) Islands, then charted the coast of North America from Oregon through the Bering Strait to Alaska and the Arctic Ocean, a monumental accomplishment. Cook also discovered and named King George's (Nootka) and Prince William's Sound, as well as Cape Prince of Wales, the westernmost extremity of North America, previously unknown to English navigators.
