note: I may not list this one again for awhile after the free listing period ends. If it isn't sold, you will still be able to find it on my website but probably at a higher price. 1797 William Bent (Boston) five and a half octave square pianoforte. A very rare American made 18th Century pianoforte of the Federal period (Sheraton style) from the shop of a very important early Boston maker. A perfect fit for a historic house or museum in New England. This instrument is of special interest as there were very few eighteenth century pianos made in America, and there are even fewer still in existence. Cabinet is in unrestored condition, mostly original strings and pins. This pianoforte is in rather rough condition in general but not nearly so much as a very similar Boston 1790s Crehore square that recently fetched over $10000 at auction. William Bent worked in Crehore's shop during that same period and the artwork on both could possibly have been painted by the same artist. This fine pianoforte has a documented line of ownership (provenance) tracing back to the Los Angeles Museum and the 19th Century piano maker George Bent, a descendant of Wm Bent. This piano is also listed in the Clinkscale book on early pianos and is prominently featured in George Bent's turn of the century Crown Piano Catalog. Very nice a definite collector's read more
