1797 PHILADELPHIA Acts of the Fifth Congress Cherokees Marine Corps EstablishedUp for auction we have a 1797 Philadelphia (William Ross) printing of the "Acts Passed at the First Session of the Fifth Congress of the United States of America Begun and Held at the City of Philadelphia, in the State of Pennsylvania, on Monday the Fifteenth of May, One Thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety-Seven, and of the Independence of the United States, the Twenty-First". Book also includes acts passed in both the Second and Third Sessions of the Fifth Congress.From -"A complete official record of the Acts of the Fifth Congress and the Journals of the three Sessions of the House for that Congress. Although the Acts' title refers only to the First Session, all three Sessions are included. The Second and Third Sessions are preceded by half titles. This printing of the Acts is not in Evans, Bristol, or Shipton & Mooney; NAIP records institutional holdings. The Alien & Sedition Acts and establishment of the Marine Corps, plus a treaty with the Cherokees, are among this Congress's significant Acts. The Journals begin with President Adams's Message of May 16, 1797, on deteriorating relations with France and the status of dealings with Spain on the Florida boundary.
