I'm not sure how these all tie in together but I bought them this way and feel I need to keep them together as a lot. Plus many of the names through-out are the same and so are many of the places tfore I believe it is one person's personal and account journals from their business and travels. T are 18 ledgers/journals in this lot. They range in date from the earliest being 1899 and the latest dating from the 1950's. I think some of them are in Spanish but most are in English. It seems our original owner (I found the name of Thomas Kose written in and on the front of several of the ledgers) was a sheep rancher and had several Hispanics working for him. T are several ledgers with the workers name, their job description and their rate of pay. One is even a time book. One exciting thing is that a friend of mine found out some great genealogy information on Thomas Kose and it seems he was full blooded Indian belonging to the . Below is some of the information she found out about him and his family that I found fascinating; "Thomas KOSE is recorded in census records as a full blooded Laguna Pueblo Indian; born circa 1875. I pasted some pictures and information below about his residence, the Laguna Indian Reservation, below. T appear to be some enumerator errors in the 3 census records I have below. I have no doubt that the 3 records are all the same family. I found Thomas first in the "Census of the Indian Population" in 1910 in Encinal , Valencia County, New Mexico : Thomas, 35, born in NM, sheep herder; Juanita, 32; Walter, 12; Joseph, 10; Francisco, 8; Edith, 6; Maria, 22, sister. T is a notation at the top of the record sheet stating, "Laguna Pueblo Grant". Thomas spoke English, his family is noted as speaking Laguna, and none other than Thomas could read or write. In 1920 in Encinal, Laguna Pueblo, Valencia County, NM, on Encinal road: Thomas, 45, farmer; another wife or possibly an error, Lenita, 35; Ray, 24; Valentine, 20; Francisco, 19; Joe, 18; Edith, 17; Vincentes, 12; Juan Jose, 6; Maria, 32, sister. The 4 older sons are listed as sheep herders. In 1930 record on Laguna Indian Reservation: Thomas, 60 (I believe this is an enumerator's error. Thomas would have been 55), farmer; another wife or possibly an error, Vinita, 65; Ray, 38; Valentine, 35; Francisco, 33; Joseph, 31; Edith, 28; Vincente, 24; Juan Jose, 17; Maria, 30, sister. All sons are listed as sheep herders. World War I draft cards noted Thomas as father to: Joseph, born 1900 in NM, stockman; Ray born 6 November 1890 in NM, stockman, sheep herder; Valentine born 4 June 1895, sheep herder. I could not find any records for World War II draft cards. I think maybe those 1940 notations were by a grandson of Thomas." T are several ledgers with the workers name, their job description and their rate of pay. One is even a time book. It looks like he lived in New Mexico and in the green ledger t are handwritten entries that talk of the "Laguna Grant" survey project that took place in 1876-1895. He also talks of Pueblos in this booklet. I found some great photos and a description of the Laguna Pueblo Indians at; /history.htm A couple of the booklets that are dated in the 1940's have hand stamps in the front that say "Diamond S. Club Pon_______a 1923 New Mexico" Have no idea what that all means. Then t are two black vinyl notebooks that are actual diary type notebooks that are almost full of handwritten daily entries. I believe the person who originally kept these diaries worked for or owned a cement company in the 1940's. In one of them on the inside front page he has written; "Alberta Hotel in Hollywood Calif , Concrete Inspector" and also " America the only light that is left in the world. This statement made by Johnnie Jones during 1940 war crisis." He also has the names of three states written: " Wyoming , Colorado and Texas ." This is the particular journal I want to quote from, as foll...
