Very Fine Brass-bound WoodenANTIQUE BUCK BROTHERS AUGER BRACE GREAT FOR DISPLAY OR USE This is one of the most handsome antique woodworking tools I have seen! Sheffield-trained toolmakers John & Charles Buck founded a shop in 1853 in Worcester, MA under the name, "Buck Brothers." In 1864 they moved their shop to Millbury, MA where they became so successful that they built a town for their employees called "Buck's Village." They became considered one of the finest makers of edged tools - chisels, drills & planer blades - in the Country. Various Buck family members ran the company for nearly 100 years until it was sold in 1951 to the Great neck Saw Co. The brace is in excellent condition for either display or to use. It does have an old repair to a short crack in the heel of the forward section as shown in the photo above. The piece has been very carefully and lightly restored to bring out the beauty of the wood and brass. Buyer pays parcel post postage based on a 2-3 pound shipping weight from zip code 76574.
