This is an 1806 Spanish Milled dollar that was the most commonly used one dollar currency in America until well after the Revolution. Also known as a "Pieces of Eight" this silver coin was sanctioned by the government until well after 1850 because of its purity and uniformity. It used milled or patterned edges to discourage shaving the edges and thus the weight, so it became a most trusted coin. It carries the Mexico mint mark (the small O over the letter M on the reverse). This coin is in very good original condition and contains 1 ounce of .90 silver.
