1807 $5 Bust Right -- Double Struck With Reverse Rotation -- AU55 NGC. CAC. Breen-6452, BD-6, High R.4. The Large Date die variety with a repunched 1 and a tall, narrow appearance to the 8. This coin was struck twice, and the hammer (reverse) die rotated slightly between strikes. The anvil (obverse) die remained stationary. Thus, the obverse shows only a sharp strike, while the reverse exhibits doubling strongest on the upper and right portions of the coin. Luster fills most of the reverse, as well as the obverse periphery and Liberty's hair. The olive-green surfaces have fewer than the expected number of marks for a lightly circulated early 19th century gold coin. Grade: 55, Service: NGC, Service No.: 8092, Issue Date: 1807, Denomination: $5, Variety: BUST RIGHT
