This auction is for a high quality (for this strike) 1814 Broke Token of Halifax Nova Scotia. This token is listed in my guidebook under Private Tokens. Captain P.B. Broke was Commander of the H.M.S. Shannon. This token was struck to commemorate the capture of an American Warship (U.S.S. Chesapeake) by Captain Broke in 1813, the first naval victory of the War of 1812. The American ship was taken back to Halifax, Nova Scotia as a "Prize of War" and sold. The die preparation for this token was very poor resulting in tokens of inferior quality. I believe this is the Short Bust of Captain Broke and the variety is 3 coat buttons with the left ship main mast lower. I am starting the auction for this interesting historical artifact at only 99 cents with no reserve. Shipping and handling will be only $1 to any US location ($2 to locations outside the US)
