The Gospel According to Saint John (In The Mohawk Language).[Nene Karighyoston tsinihorighhoten ne Saint John]New-York : Printed for the American Bible Society. D. Fanshaw, Printer., 1818. 1st EdA rare early first American printing of the Gospel of Saint John, for Mohawk Indians. Printed in Mohawk and English, the Gospel has been translated by Teyoninhokarawen (John Norton). Opposite pages bear duplicate numbering with English and Mohawk languages side by side; the title in front in English (possibly lacking the matching Mohawk TP). Includes errata at end of text in Mohawk. Main block lightly browned, foxed and toned, unmarked other than library numbers on title, as shown; easily read and all intact. Lacking covers, retaining worn down leather spine. Front EP tattered and detached, but text in good shape; complete, 116/116pp, (1)errata. Very rare and thus, very valuable. Measures 5.5" x 3.5". With a nice recasing, this can really shine.
