We are pleased to offer for auction with NO RESERVE PRICE a map of the WORLD on MERCATORS PROJECTION extracted from the 1820 London edition of Abraham Reesâe(tm) famed Cyclopaedia . The maps from the Rees Cyclopaedia were drawn under the direction of Aaron Arrowsmith. Arrowsmith (1750-1823) was an English cartographer and geographer. He founded the map-making and publishing business carried on by his sons and by his nephew John Arrowsmith (1790-1873) The Arrowsmith maps were among the best of that period. JUST A NOTE ABOUT THE SCANNED IMAGES: The map is larger than our scanner bed. We have scanned as much of the entire image as we can to give an idea of the overall illustration and offer a close-up showing the incredible detail as well. Rees's Cyclopædia, or The New Cyclopaedia, or, Universal Dictionary of the Arts and Sciences was edited by Abraham Rees (1743-1825). It appeared in parts between January 1802 and August 1820, and ran to 39 volumes of text, 5 volumes of plates, and an atlas. It was written by about 100 contributors, most of whom were nonconformists. They were specialists in their fields, covering the arts and humanities, agriculture, science, technology, and medicine.
