It is 16mo (5 3/4 X 3 1/2 inches); hardcover; full leather (calf) on boards with gilt stamped bands on spine & gilt stamped letters on black spine label; edges worn; spine & boards rubbed & scratched; *Ex-library - Pennsylvania College, Gettysburg, book plates inside front board, & ink notations on front end-paper - no other library markings; small ink scribbles on rear end-papers; small pencil notations throughout text; occasional ink notations in text; small stains & foxing spots scattered throughout contents; front end-paper torn in inner edge & becoming detached otherwise text block text; 301 pages.Illustrated with an engraved frontis.Edward Young (1683 – 5 April 1765) was an English poet, best remembered for Night-Thoughts. The Complaint: or, Night-Thoughts on Life, Death, & Immortality, better known simply as Night-Thoughts, is a long poem by Edward Young published in nine parts (or "nights") between 1742 and 1745. The poem is written in blank verse. It describes the poet's musings on death over a series of nine "nights" in which he ponders the loss of his wife and friends, and laments human frailties.
