1822 Manuscript Letter to Elias Hicks, Philadelphia Quakers - Hicksite-Orthodox Split Significant Historical Content Sent to Elias Hicks by Philadelphia Quakers who voice their dissension with his views [Jesus Christ was not the son of God] and refusal to meet with two elders to discuss. "...we feel it our duty to declare that we cannot have religious unity with thy conduct or the doctrines thou art charged with promulgating." Dated 12 mo 19th 1822. Clerical copy, of the period, "signed" by Caleb Peirce, Samuel P Griffiths, Thomas Wistar, Joseph Scattergood and five others. Ink, rag content paper with watermarks. Size : 4pp, 7.5" x 10" Condition : Fold separations with a number of repairs. Most appear to have been made some time ago, plus one more recent tape. Loss of text on two of the "signer" names. Else legible, good Original item.
