Description This is a very old Day-Book/Ledger from the store of one Benj. F. Haskell covering the years from 1827 to 1829. It has old leather over board covers. Please note that the spine, in its entirety has separated from the book. The inside front cover has a pasted down 1828 calendar from the Counting House Almanac. Interspersed with the typical ledger entries are some legal agreements handwritten as part of the text. For example, there is a borrowing agreement between Lemule Case and Mr. Haskell. The first regular entry is dated June 5, 1827 and the page numbers are always on the left side. Hundreds upon hundreds of entries. Some names include: Adam Stebbins, Jonathan Cummings, Amos Eastman, Joshua Shackwell, Jahal Sears, Jeremiah Lilane, Philemon Woolcott, Josiah Austin, George W. Griswold, Col. Asahel Bingham, Truman Post, Amos Weller, Wyman Sherwood, etc. Typical general store entries such as groceries, tobacco, sewing items, rum, gin, sugar, etc. Pages are tightly bound and very stiff. The biggest problem is legibility of the handwriting and not foxing. Page size is approximately 6" x 16". A wonderful fine. If you Thanks for looking and bidding.
