Antique clear flint glass lacy pressed glass LARGE & HEAVY rectangular bowl with chamfered corners, beveled squares base pattern, Empire OG style sides and a vigorous serrated top edge in original as found condition. . Sandwich Glass Co., Sandwich , MA , 1830's. Guaranteed old and original; this is not a fake or reproduction. Actual weight 4 ½ lbs. 12 1/4" long by 9 3/8" wide by 2" tall. All of the glass in this estate was in three cupboards in the dining room. When we inspected the estate we were told former owners "collected old glass". Dissecting this, we determined that they DID "collect old glass" but did this by occasionally purchasing "OLD GLASS" from a local house sale, auction or community benefit sale. This STUNNING early flint glass bowl WAS collected by the family. A family member dutifully purchased this at a local church Christmas bazaar and promptly became family legend for poor taste, poor judgment, exorbitant spending and further generally being bad for... buying ...what is in fact...a (again) STUNNING massive deliberately formidable CHUNK of DELIGHTFUL brittle, crisp, CRYSTAL CLEAR old flint glass from the earliest pressed glass period, pre-lacy. This thing is huge, heavy and WONDERFUL. It's that brittle crystal flint with big old bubbles and mold roughness and that understated pattern and ...oh if one likes that
