1830s BRITISH LANDSCAPE Oil Painting to $41,000 ANTIQUE OIL PAINTING c1820 THE RETURN HOME CLASSICAL BRITISH LANDSCAPE Attributed THOMAS BARKER OF BATH 1769-1847 LOW START PRICE! DATES- c1820 ARTIST- Attributed Thomas Barker of Bath MEDIUM- Oils on academy board panel DESCRIPTION- A very elegant classical British landscape oil painting of a young man trying his hand at a spot of fishing in a woodland stream. Well handled and clearly early, the painting bears excellent resemblance to the work of the British landscape painter Thomas Barker of Bath. There is an old Christies stencil verso and the oil application has a rich, warm feel which Barkers work was famed for. CONDITION- The painting is dark and a little dirty and would perhaps benefit from a gentle clean. There is some general craqueleur and varnish browning in places (most notably to the sky). The panel is housed in its original frame which has some losses and a little damage middle bottom. Normally we would remove such frames for safe shipping however on this occasion we are leaving it in situ, free to the highest bidder.
