1830s Shepardstown, VA stampless letter GREAT CONTENT & CANCEL LONG Letter sent to President of Gettysburg, PA Bank Long and detailed 3+ page stampless folded letter written circa 1830's (no year date given) by two women - Maria and Ann Maria (last names could be Russell) in Shepardstown, Virginia (now West Virginia) and sent to Samuel R. Russell in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Mr. Russell was President of the Gettysburg bank - see link below. Letter is very chatty about an upcoming wedding. Both writers (seem like the daughter and wife of Russell) are now planning to stay longer in Shepardstown to attend. They implore (and scold) Samuel for not coming to visit, and putting his work ahead of family. Lots of family chatter, trips to Harpers Ferry, carriage rides, gossip etc etc... I really just skimmed this letter but more study should greatly reward you. Enlarged scans provided. Postmark is a bold oval SHEPARDSTOWN, VA with enclosed manuscript date and a 10 cent manuscript rate mark. Letter fully intact and in good shape - some archival tape repair but nicely done. Terms $1.00 postage in the United States, and only $ 2.00 elsewhere. We combine postage for multiple purchases. Postal insurance and registration extra.
