Fellow of Oriel College, Oxford. With Notes by Capt. Thomas Brown. Edinburgh: Published for the Proprietors, by James Chambers, Edinburgh; W. Orr, London; and W. Curry, Jun. & Co. Dublin. MDCCCXXXIII." [1833]It is 8vo (6 1/2 X 4 1/2 inches); hardcover; half-calf on marble boards; edges worn; spine label chipped mostly off; raised bands on spine; boards rubbed & stained; boards starting to give but still secure; bookplate removed from inside front board; stain on lower edge of title, prelims ad first few pages; stain in lower inner corner throughout; minor scattered foxing throughout; text block tight; wear at top of spine with paper repair; 356 pages + plates.Illustrated with frontis plate of Selborne church [tissue guard], + 7 full-page plates (showing oak, hoopoe, domestic hen; partridge, waxwing, moose, etc...) and vignettes in text.Gilbert White FRS (18 July 1720 – 26 June 1793) was a "parson-naturalist", a pioneering English naturalist and ornithologist.
