Collectors will have little problem locating an 1836 half eagle as long as they are willing to settle for a circulated example through AU58. A Mint State specimen can be located through MS62 with a bit of patience, but higher-grade coins will be challenging.. The current Select coin is remarkably struck throughout; indeed, one is tempted to say "fully struck." The exceptionally clean fields give the central motifs a medal-like appearance, and both sides display a light reddish-gold color with no mentionable abrasions or defects. This is without doubt a high-end coin for the grade that will satisfy the most discriminating collector. Census: 24 in 63, 10 finer (9/11). Grade: 63, Service: NGC, Service No.: 8174, Issue Date: 1836, Denomination: $5
