Becker in 40 colorirten Karten.Freiburg im Breisgau, Herder, 1839.Folio. 16.4 x 12.3 inches.With 46 lithographed double-page maps (10 of 62x41 cm, 36 of 42x33 cm) and 4 full-page lithographed maps of 31x41 cm, all partly coloured by hand. 2 leaves with title-page and table of contents.Original half calf.Very nice second edition (first ed. 1836) of this superb historical atlas which contains 50 lithographed historical maps, such as: The Roman empire during the era of Augustus; A survey map of the empire of Charles the Great; A survey map during the time of Napoleon, Egypt from it's earliest age; The Netherlands; Biblical maps, etc. Most of the maps (46) are after drawings by J. Löwenberg, 4 after drawings by J.V. Kutscheit. All maps are nicely (partly) coloured by hand.Binding rubbed and a little bumped; some minor marginal spotting; a few maps with even age toning.
