Up for auction is a very nice 1840 Light Artillery Saber made by Ames. I would say that this sword is in excellent condition as I don't see many flaws except for a few dents in the scabbard and the manufacturers stamp almost gone. The leather grip seems to be original and intact and still looks supple. The wire wrap is intact. The brass hilt is very clean and even colored. The blade only has two discernable markings. On one side it says "U.S. A.D.K. 1963." and on the other side the marking is almost gone but I can just make out the "A" and "M" in AMES and part of MASS. The blade itself is smooth and straight. The metal scabbard is clean and in good condition with 2 or 3 small dents. The number "131" is stamped on the drag. The sword fits firmly but slides in and out smoothly. All in all, an excellent specimen of this model sword from the Civil War. If you have any questions or comments, I'd love to hear them, or if you need more photos, I'll provide them. Bid with confidence as I have 100% feedback. Happy Bidding!
