Lizars, London, ca. 1830’s to 1840’s. Jardine made natural history available to all levels of Victorian society by editing and issuing the hugely popular forty volumes of The Naturalist’s Library (1833-1843). He took on the services of William Lizars to render these lovely hand-colored steel engravings of birds which today are most sought after.
