1840s Leather Eagle Helmet from Roxbury - Boston. Truly an American Classic - All original. This helmet is awesome. What attracted me to this helmet originally was the overstuffed eagle which is typical of helmets from the 1830s and 1840s. Then t is the one piece, hand painted front with the federal shield and the name "America." The absolutely incredible thing to me is the fact that this helmet is in incredible condition and has never been played with. All of the paint and gold leaf is original. T are no cracks in the brim or crown. The leather liner is all t The original stitching that holds the front on the helmet is perfect. The paint is all good. Some of the gold leaf that was on the front has faded and t is a little bit of leather missing on the brim tby exposing a little wire. I know you read this in a lot of descriptions but this helmet would truly be a standout in the finest of fire collections or Folk Art collections. I have not found any maker's name on this helmet and never have for something this early. Considering the age and superb condition I rate the condition of this helmet as a 9.5 on a scale of 10.
