1842 Edinburgh - Glasgow Railway opening medal RARE BHM 2069 Description Diameter : 48 mm Obverse : Viaduct in Scottish hilly landscape (Almond Valley), trains steaming to left and right and a man fishing in the river below. Legend: GREAT VIADUCT OVER THE VALLEY OF THE ALMOND NEAR EDINBURGH. Exergue: TO COMMEMORATE THE OPENING OF THE EDINBURGHT AND GLASGOW RAILWAY FEBRUARY 18. 1842 Reverse : Birdview of the Royal Exchange Square in Glasgow. A horse-pulled wagon and people in streets. Legend: PUBLISHED BY S. WOOLFIELD ROYAL EXCHANGE SQUARE GLASGOW In excellent grade, near UNC with just the lightest wear to uppermost surfaces. A rare medal, seldom offered in eye pleasing grade.
