Skinner (1807 - 1861) began teaching school and preaching at age 19. He edited the "Southern Pioneer" in Baltimore in the early 1830s and later the "Gospel Sun" in Haverhill New Hampshire. In 1837 he became pastor of the First Universalist Society which was organized in Boston. In 1842 he wrote and published "Universalism Illustrated and Defended," and in 1843 his "Book of Prayer".
