1844, THE DANUBE,AUSTRIA, GERMANY, BY WILLIAM BEATTIE, 50 PLATES, FINE BINDING What we are offering here is a beautifully bound album, containing 50 engraved plates from William Beattie's The Danube, its History, Scenary, And Topography, printed in London in 1844. 4to (28 cms x 21.5 cms). The plates were drawn by W. H. Bartlett and engraved on steel by several other artists, includes views of many places in Germany and Austria. The book is superbly bound in contemporary morocco elaborately gilt, bookbinders label on front pastedown, inner gilt dentelles, leaf edges gilt, plates with some foxing and a stain running through the lower margin of some plates, binding in good condition, some rubbing and marks, head of spine repaired. A truly stunning album of views.
