The ECLECTIC MAGAZINE OF Foreign Literature, Science, and Art January to April, 1844 Four (4) Steel Engravings Volume I Edited by John Holmes Agnew Published by Leavitt, Trow, & Co. New York and Philadelphia J. F. Trow & Co. Printers, 33 Ann Steet, New York 1844 There are 572 pages + 2 pages of Index in Volume I of The Eclectic Magazine offered on this listing. The boards are half leather and the listing picture shows the front board. The four plates (engravings) are: T. B. Macaulay by S. W. Reynolds, Jun. The Gypsying Party by Leslie The Village Festival by Turner Milton and His Daughters by Romney The endpapers are a beautiful web design in greens and black. No marks or tears but there is some foxing on the text pages; however, the text pages are white with little tanning. The 4 steel engravings (one for each month) are tissue protected and most of the foxing is found in the margins, although there is offset from the engravings. There is wear to the half leather boards -- the listing picture shows the front board of the book. The backstrip looks nice and has Eclecti c Magazine and Vol. I and 1844 stamped in gilt on it. The binding is tight.
