Up for bid is a stampless folded letter in excellent condition--like it was mailed yesterday! It is addressed to George H. Kuhn, Esq. at Boston, MA and it runs for two pages. It is from his son Austin and it was written on May 13, 1844 at New Orleans. He tells his dad that he is coming home. The heat is bad and he has been losing weight. He has investigated steamboats and will take passage on the J.M. White which he says is first class. It will take him to St. Louis and then from there on to Cincinnati. He will travel on land to Cleveland and Buffalo and then across New York to New England. He expects the trip to take a month or more. Someone he knows is leaving sooner on The Sultana. He must be staying at the St. Charles. He says there are a hundred less boarders there than at the same time last year. He himself is not tired of New Orleans but he needs some pure air. He visited Mr. Bridges and Martha--their child Abby is undergoing the measles--the others have finished. He visited Mr. Touro this morning and they talked pleasantly--Mr. Touro is glad that Mr. Clay has come out against annexation. (By the way, this opposition to the annexation of Texas most likely cost Henry Clay the election.) Please add 85 cents for shipping in the US; $1.50 elsewhere. I accept PayPal.
