Be sure to add me to your favorites list ! 1845 Thomas Dicks Silver & Glass Butter DishGorgeous Sterling silver & Glass covered butter dish made by the silversmith Thomas Dicks in London, 1845. Silver covered butter dish measures 7 inches in length by 1 5/8 inches wide by 1 1/2 inches deep. The bottom of the butter dish is glass or crystal with beveled edges and a lovely cut starburst on the bottom. The top is sterling silver addorned with a gorgeous leafy floral motif. T is some wear to the decoration in the middle of the lid. I am not sure if this is a decorative center medallion or if this is monogramming, either way it is faded and unreadable. T are a few spots in the silver I could not remove with polishing and minute chips on the glass corners. British sterling hallmarks: Standard: Sterling, City: London, Date Letter: k (1845), Duty Mark: 1838-1890. T is also the maker's mark TD for Thomas Dicks.
