Part of a Recent Manhattan Estate Purchase included among other items a large collection of vintage books whose focus is the Far East. These books explore the culture, politics, language, and religion of Tibet, China, Mongolia, Japan etc. This auction is for a Rare 174 page edition of "MEMOIRS OF FATHER RIPA" DURING THIRTEEN YEARS' RESIDENCY AT THE COURT OF PEKING IN THE SERVICE OF THE EMPEROR OF CHINA, published by Wiley & Putnam in 1846. The black cloth boards have gilt titles on the spine. There is some writing in pencil from the legation of China on the pages before the title page, otherwise the text is clean and unmarked. There is some wear on the edges of the spine. All in all this 1846 book is in very good+ condition. I am starting the bidding on this auction at $29.99 with no reserve. Shipping in the US of $4.00 plus $.80 for handling and delivery confirmation will be added to the total at the end of the auction.
